Childcare Centres

Annandale boasts two quality child care centres with vacancies in high demand. ABC Annandale Learning Centre is located on the corner of Oleander Street and Yolanda Drive, and ABC Annandale East Learning Centre on the corner of Brazier and William Angliss Drives.

Annandale initially had a domination of private schools, so public schools were built to provide equality and meet the rising demand related to the enormous population growth. No expense was spared in the construction of these public schools.

Primary Schools

Private

Annandale Christian School is situated on Cypress Drive and Jonquil Crescent, off Yolanda Drive. Townsville Grammar Junior School is located on the corner of Macarthur and William Angliss Drives and Southern Cross Catholic School is next to William Ross High School.

Public

Annandale State Primary School is centrally located on the corner of Oleander Street and Yolanda Drive. This school has a specifically designed Defence Community Organisation offering workshops and assistance for families in Defence through a full-time Defence Liaison Officer; providing support in areas of family separations, disruptions and postings

High Schools

William Ross High School on Mervyn Crossman Drive is within walking distance of the main center of Annandale. With more than 1000 students it is one of the largest High Schools in North Queensland. Offering a Specialist Music Program and Sports Academy, supportive staff also cater for a high proportion of pupils for Defence families.

Tertiary Education

As one of the best universities in the world, James Cook University is renowned for its power in teaching and the social and cultural changes resultant in its research. Located in the neighbouring suburb of Douglas and positioned behind the Townsville Hospital, some of the university faculties work harmoniously with the Hospital for the educational benefits of their students.
